Design For a Cause
Project Statement
I worked with Figma to create an app prototype for a local non-profit. Experimenting with UI design, I created a user experience that flowed seamlessly and was easy to navigate. I used branding materials designed for the app to create additional pieces of collateral.
Research
I began by completing a SWOT analysis for my chosen nonprofit, Shared Harvest Food Bank. I found that their strengths were in the clarity of their mission statement and their weaknesses were an outdated website and confusing volunteering application process. The opportunity opened up for a mobile app to create an easier-to-navigate volunteering portal, as well as opportunities for users to receive aid.

With this research in mind, I created personas and empathy maps for both a recipient and donor. I used these to inform my design decisions later on.
Design Process and Solution
After sketching out some flow charts, I began designing the app in Figma. Features include, a home page with news and navigation buttons, a hamburger menu for easy navigation to different pages a login and signup process, and processes for both signing up for volunteering and receiving aid. The app utilizes some previous branding materials of the nonprofit, such as the color scheme and plant motifs, but other choices were made to update and modernize the design.
Collateral
I designed collateral both for donors and recipients, in the form of a label used for food pantry deliveries and a shirt for volunteers to wear.
